Biker Ballerina in Paris

Pink Tiered HM skirt Paris

Since my ‘Operation Rethink Pink’ began this spring, I have cautiously added a few more pink items to my wardrobe.  The most recent addition is this blush pink tiered tulle skirt.  I would like to point out that these are tiers and not ruffles!  When you stand still in this dress (and when there is no wind) it is linear in structure, like a pink Doric column.  I was a momentarily horrified when I looked at the photos because when the wind is blowing, it veers dangerously close to looking like a ruffle.  Ruffles are not a fashion territory I venture into at all… and certainly not PINK ones.  After a while, I decided I liked the amazing movement in this skirt, and I made peace with the almost-a-ruffle-but-not-really aspect.

tier skirt detail

I particularly like the vintage dusty ballerina pink colour of this skirt; it looks like it could be from a previous season of Valentino or Chanel, yet it is H&M.  I was so pleased with how well it packed (not a wrinkle nor a micro-pleat out of place after being squeezed into my suitcase) that I went back and bought it in black as well.   It is a super versatile piece.  In the summer, I’ll wear the skirts with a tank top and sandals for daytime, and with heels and a jacket for an evening out.  When I was in Paris last week, I met my friend Stella of Stella Asteria blog for lunch one afternoon at Chez Julien and I wore the pink tiered skirt with pointed flats and a fitted camouflage jacket (worn in this post).  I hadn’t planned to wear them together, but I happened to have the  jacket in my suitcase and I liked the odd juxtaposition of camouflage with sheer ballerina pink tiers.  Plus, since I may be the world’s worst packer I didn’t have many other options!

Breezy tiered skirt

On this breezy day, I wore my biker jacket with the skirt… again, enjoying the juxtaposition of  black leather with pink froth.  Since an outfit without sparkle is not an outfit worth wearing 🙂 I added metallic pink shoes and the pink waterfall necklace that I finally broke down and bought from my own shop!  I wear the blue one so frequently that I knew I’d get lots of wear out of the pink one as well.

Soon, I’m going to put together a blog post on Paris which I will keep ‘evergreen’ as I update it with new information every time we go.  We spend a lot of time in the city since my husband grew up there and we have an apartment in the 3rd arrondissement.  A train journey of  just over two hours makes it irresistible any time we have a few days free.  As you might imagine, I have lots of opinions on what is a waste of time in Paris and what you absolutely should not miss!  On a monthly basis, I am putting together lists of recommendations for friends who plan Parisian holidays, so I’m going to do a VERY extensive post for you (or any of your friends) who want proper current inside information on what to do and where to go.  I can guarantee you my restaurant and shopping recommendations will not disappoint!

Here are some more photos from Paris, either on the Pont Alexandre III or in the Place Furstemberg… two of the most photogenic spots on a spring day to show a pink skirt that almost definitely does not have ruffles!

Up above the purple tree blossoms is the most perfect tiny balcony overlooking the Place Furstemberg.  I have fantasies about sitting there drinking coffee and reading books in the sun for hours.  Mind you, finding a good coffee in Paris is almost a fantasy, but I’ve got you covered in the guide I’m working on.

I LOVE this!!!! Also I cannot wait to read you Paris recommendations!! I took my teenage daughter to Paris a couple of years ago for a long weekend. We took the train from Zurich where we live and it was so much more civilized than flying!! And in the long run somewhat faster than flying with security checks…. we are hoping to go again nice she returns from her gap year travel adventures!! I always look forward to your updates in my mailbox. Thank you!!!

Oh, I LOVE the train, it definitely beats flying and all the hassle of airports these days. Lucky daughter, I hope she is enjoying her gap year somewhere fun? I’m definitely keeping the younger crowd (like your daughter) in mind as I work on the Paris post. Not everyone wants to eat in a super fancy restaurant for every meal where they bring a padded stool for your handbag to be placed on (at least I don’t)! There is SO much changing on the food and design scene in Paris in the last 5 years; it is really exciting.

I am so glad you enjoy the blog, Marlena xx

Oh, wow! I love your pink (non-ruffled) skirt and especially love it with your black leather jacket. I can’t wait for your Paris post — can never get enough insights about visiting Paris from those who know it well, since I only get there occasionally.

I also appreciate your enthusiasm for your style. It’s (mostly) not my style (I’m more in the Debbie Harry aspirational camp), but there are some overlaps — especially above. Most importantly, I love anyone who enjoys fashion as much as you do. Thanks for your blog. 🙂

Oh, thanks so much, I’m glad you like it all! I love digging out some slightly off the beaten track places in Paris, or the things that you won’t find in guidebooks. Having a Parisian husband is useful, because between the two of us (he is a SERIOUS foodie) we manage to find some real gems.

I’m so pleased you enjoy the blog, Ann… fashion/style is something I’ve been opinionated about since birth 🙂 xx

It’s always such a joy reading your posts from Paris Lisa & this one is no exception. So glad you’re enjoying pink so much, I’m the same actually – Wonder if this has something to do with the new female revolution we’re experiencing at the moment? Pink Power!

Ooohhh good one. I showed Ron these photos… he said they were indeed very good. The one with the bridge and lanterns and the ones with the trees, plus the one with the lantern and street behind you. And of course the skirt moving as you walk away. Very good. What would we do without our photographing husbands?
Oh I would almost forget the fab outfit. I think I commented on it on IG. I like the three pink items: necklace, skirt, shoes. And then the biker jacket to take the sugar away.
Went to have a peak at your friend’s blog and nearly bought a bag. But.. as I have dropped my iPhone seconds before I changed the cover… I now have to pay between 200 and 300 euros to have that fixed. No bag. Bummer.

Yeah, some aren’t as good as other photos… a few are a touch blurry or grainy because part of the day it was quite cloudy. I bought the necklace for exactly that reason, to have something else to “anchor” the pink… then I can stick anything in between really, even a sweatshirt!

Stella always has some lovely things on her blog for sure… very tempted by all the yellow bags right now.

OH NOOOOOOOO, that is such a waste of money to have dropped your phone. ARGH! xx

Ha.. phone is repaired. At Apple they only charged € 149. So the rest of the companies which offer this service are crooks. Oh, and I get half of it back from the travel insurance. No big deal after all.
And I now am very much into mini bags from Zara. The have such cute ones and for such a low price. I did go back for the yellow bag Stella had listed from Real Real. It was sold…

A wonderful photos of Paris, and a wonderful look at you. The skirt is a real treat, I love the delicate color and I love these overlapping flyers so delicately. The rest of the look, in black, is really perfect and elegant. The biker jacket is a very original option. I love their shoes, they are beautiful! And I love the wonderful necklace.

This skirt is gorgeous and looks wonderful with the edgier jacket to ward off the chance of sweetness. I love the long, delicate fringe and its movement. I am also slowly adding a bit of blush/pink too my wardrobe, as it is not a color I gravitate towards. The very little pink I do own is more of the jewel tone variety. I thoroughly enjoyed your photos and seeing a bit of Paris. So lucky of you to be able to stay there regularly.

I simply cannot believe that skirt is from H&M! Love the way you styled it! I am a lover of pink- it beckons to me in almost every shade…..in fact, that necklace is crying out for me to own it, so I’ll be checking that out.(and may I just say…..your skin looks ah-mazing!). Really looking forward to your Paris round up!

I know, it really looks better than most of what I usually see in H&M! I’ve always liked shocking pink, but I’m coming around to these less ‘shouty’ colours of pink now. I can totally see the pink necklace on you! I’ve found the multi-colours of pink in it enable it go with every shade of my rapidly expanding pink wardrobe! Thank you, love xx

This skirt is great. I wanted to buy it, using the link, but they wouldn’t let me do it because I’m in Alaska. Buying it in GB would be cheaper than in the US and you would have gotten a penny for your efforts. Why is that that stores don’t let us buy where we want?

Oh, what a pain, Nicole. I posted it on Facebook, and was told by US readers that it is available in pink in the US, but not black. Do they not ship to Alaska from the US site? If you want, send me an email, let me know what size you need, and I’ll order it and ship it to you from here. You can just pay me via Paypal. I’ve done that with the black one for another reader! xx

Looking forward to the post on Paris. I was their six and half years ago with my family for a week so I focused on the major tourist sites since we were with my mother so I didn’t have time to go see the off the beaten path places.

My favourite style trick – love the juxtosposition of the black biker jacket and the pink skirt. The movement of the skirt is fantastic too and I don’t think it is too ruffle like – ruffles would add so much volume this skirt is sleek but moves.

Amazing look and photos of Paris my dear Lisa! I just got back to Greece and feel depressed about missing Paris. I was so not ready to leave but I take courage from the fact I will be back soon. It was so amazing to meet you there. I still can’t believe this very particular thing we have in common, it felt like we were meant to meet each other! And it also felt like it has been just 20 minutes with you, although it was 3 hours or more? haha! As for your look, I am so happy to have seen this skirt and especially your amazing necklace! When I saw you waiting for me outside of Chez Julien, I saw your back and though “is it Lisa”? And instantly I though “of course it’s her, she is the best dressed woman I have seen today! 😀 I love this look but the juxtaposition with camo jacket the day I met you, totally blew my mind!
    Sending love your way!
