The Joy of Socks

For the price of a fancy coffee, you can make a style statement.  In this case it is pair of £6 socks.  I’ve worn this (in my opinion fabulous) Miu Miu coat several times on the blog, and will wear it several more, no doubt… that’s what investment dressing is all about, but despite the coat, the real scene stealer here is a pair of cotton socks (these, from Amazon).  I’d been looking for a pair of sufficiently obnoxious socks to wear with some heeled sandals, but the combination of this rainbow argyle pair with my cognac and orange Miu Miu heels was too much to resist.  The orange diamond in the socks and the orange straps on the shoes cried out for a play date.

I bought these socks in a few other colours too because, well, London is dreary at the moment.  February is my least favourite month here.  It is cold and grey.  The air is motionless and heavy.  There is the dampness, which allows the cold to make its way deep into your bones.  The only cure for my wintery ‘February discontent’ is lashings of tea, and COLOUR.  If you’ve spent more than two minutes on my blog or in my company, you’ll know I’m fond of a statement anything.  A statement ring (see photo below).  A statement coat.  A statement necklace.  A statement headband.  A statement earring (see photo further below).  A statement lipstick.  So… these are my statement socks.

I know they’re not for everyone, but running around town in these, I got smiles and compliments on them… quite a feat in grouchy grey February.  I am unlikely to see any sparkling sunshine this month, so I made my own with statement jewellery.  I’m also unlikely to see any rainbows, so I made do with statement socks.  Sometimes we just have to make our own Vitamin D substitute, don’t we?

“In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.” -Albert Camus.  I’m going to advocate that we all dig deep into our winter wardrobes and find a few bright sparkly pieces to each create our own ‘invincible summer.’  If you need a cheap and cheerful refresh, maybe try some statement accessories like these socks.  Who’s with me!?

Those socks certainly brighten up a dull winter’s day! They look fantastic with the Miu Miu shoes. I can’t wait to see the other socks you bought!

You might get me to wear things like this as it looks so good on you. No, I would never ever wear knee socks, but these are Fun with a capital. The match with those fantastic shoes is made in heaven. How about if I try this in tights first? Would they have them in tights? Of course the coat and earrings are pretty darned good too.
Give husband my compliments for the photos. (If it was him taking them.)

Yes, I think you could definitely try some crazy coloured and patterned tights first, to ease your way in! I’ll let you know if I find any good ones, Greetje. I even thought about wearing plain black tights WITH these socks but I forgot about it until you just mentioned tights now. We’ll have you in bright socks in no time…

I’ll pass along your compliments to Matthias, thank you! xx

The socks are fabulous Lisa (you know I’m a fan of socks with heels) but it’s the ring I’m mesmerised by! It blew me away when I saw it on your Instagram & seeing it in situ now it is even more impressive. I’m going to check out your new shop now!

“Sufficiently obnoxious socks” – what a brilliant turn of phrase! This post really made me smile on just such a bone-chilling February day. I have been feeling uncharacteristically drawn to mad socks lately and now I understand why, thanks for the inspiration!
