Tibi Nell flats, autumn perfection

There’s a reason Tibi Nell flats are selling out so quickly!  Here’s what is not in their favour: they’re photographed badly on the site, they look frumpy when not actually worn on a foot and leg, they’re *not* cheap, and Tibi fails to mention on their site just how amazingly comfortable they are.  Here is what IS in their favour: they have a thick, deeply squishy sole (almost the texture of rubber cement, remember that stuff?) which is perfect for wet slippery autumn streets, a flattering pointy toe, and thin straps that you can lace up however you please.  They’d work beautifully with culottes, leather trousers, jeans, a skirt… basically anything.

I was just in the States for a couple of weeks (hence the lack of recent blog posts!  I was running around seeing family and friends, trying to get my two year old adjusted to the 5 hour time change, and eating as much coconut cake as I could get my hands on :-))and I ordered these shoes.  Unfortunately, I needed a half size larger and they sold out before I could get my mitts on them.  I’m hoping they’ll get more in stock (since writing this post, they have) because they are really stylish.  They’re much better in person than in the Tibi photos I’ve shown here, and are ridiculously comfortable.  I’ve had a big snoop around online to see if I could find a similar shoe for cheaper.  The good news is that I can, except I can’t find anything as well made, with that nice soft thick sole, which is key to their appeal in my mind.  I don’t need another pair of thin-soled flats, certainly not for autumn, so that is why I was going to splurge on these.

You get a better idea of their charm if you snoop around on the Tibi site and see them being worn with other outfits, like these two below.  I need them in black, but they also come in dark burgundy colour called “rich grenache” and a pinkish nude colour called “ballet” if either of those is more your thing.  These could really be part of my ‘You Need Stylish Comfortable Shoes’ series, that I’ve discussed here and here.

(I may or may not have bought the grey off the shoulder top below as well; I kind of want the whole outfit, which is rare for me.)

So, lace up flats… are you going there? Have you already gone there?  Do you share my love for anything with lots of laces and ties?!

I like the look of these. I wear lace-up sand shoes all summer. I find them easy to walk in and comfortable.

Fun post. Great first paragraph explanation of what Tibi has done right and wrong in promotion. So often I learn about new things to love by reading your posts. I always expand, not only my sense of style, but my understanding of it.

Beautiful & comfortable is pretty much all I look at these days. However you’re right about them looking frumpy off the foot so I probably would have skipped these at first glance. Thanks for the heads up. I adore the second outfit of leather trousers with the burgandy coloured shoes but pinkish nude sounds pretty too…will have to check them out asap!

I agree. I do love with them with both versions of the leather trousers; that’s what caught my eye. Hopefully Net a Porter will get them, because it is a pain to order from Tibi in the US if you need to swap out sizes. xx

Anytime I’ve ever attempted to wear lace up shoes before I feel like my calves look twice their size. I love the look just not on me 🙁 Thanks for sharing via #MidLifeBloggers

I get that, especially with shoes that lace all the way up to the knee (like gladiator sandals). As long as the laces stay around the ankle, I’m ok! xx

You’re right – so much prettier when seen on the foot! I just bought a pair of lace up espadrilles, but I haven’t worn them yet.

Right? They should show them on the foot; they’re pretty uninspiring off. xx

    Hi Lisa,
How’s summer in London? I love your flats, I’ve seen them on many fashionistas these days. And yes, me too, I’m a sucker for everything with laces and ties. Hope to see you next month in Paris:)
