When the lovely people at Hobbs asked me to choose something that could be styled for daytime wear as well as for going out, my eyes immediately went to this glamorous orange statement coat. I don’t own an orange coat (I know! ME! Miss Statement Coat!). I’m thrilled to have this one in my autumn wardrobe now. It is soft unlined wool felt, so it will see me through spring, autumn, and even mild winter days. The rich orange colour will add a much needed shot of sunshine into the grey days ahead. My first instinct was to clash it with some shocking pink, because those two bright hot colours are perfect together. Today though, I decided to go with orange’s complementary colour, blue.
For daytime, I wore the coat over a deep navy silk blouse and trousers. As a blogger, I can dress creatively when I meet with companies, but I often feel better if I err on the side of being professional and polished. Add some discreet sparkle and a whole lot of coffee, and I’m ready to go!

Orange Coat: Hobbs
Navy Silk Blouse: Winser London
Navy Jeans: Winser London
Bag: past season Roger Vivier
Glitter shoes: past season Kurt Geiger
Earrings: Moritz Glick
This rainbow gemstone Marie-Helene De Taillac necklace is one of my favourite pieces of jewellery
For evening, this dramatic coat works equally well. It has a real old Hollywood feel when belted and worn with heels. I switched the navy for a brighter blue, and in true Sequinist style, added a MUCH bolder (and much less expensive!) necklace and some evening-appropriate shoes.
How perfect is my rainbow seven strand necklace with this!?
I adore this exact shade of blue with orange. The dress is old, but is a real favourite. Also worn here.

I know I’ll get lots of wear out of this coat. I always love adding more colour to my closet, particularly when it is a colour I don’t have much of. It encourages me to get creative and look at everything I have with fresh eyes.
In this collaboration with Hobbs, my other blog buddies from The Over 40 Collective also chose one item to style for daytime and for going out. Let’s have a look at what they chose, shall we? I’ll put links to their posts as they go live this week so you can explore what they chose.
Thank you to Hobbs for the beautiful orange coat; I know I’ll enjoy this all winter long.

September 4, 2017 at 9:41 AMWonderful coat, color and original design. I like all the outfit, the color combination is perfect and very elegant and colorful, with pants and dress. The proposal with the blue dress is also pretty, but I choose the most classic option, with black. Although the blue dress is cute. Beautiful necklaces. I love shoes with ribbons. You always daring and original, never losing the maximum elegance.

September 4, 2017 at 1:53 PMYou are just so damn cute! Great coat, great combo with the blues, and amazing shoes.
I love how you continue to explore your chosen style. It’s not mine, but you do encourage me to consider more color and bling when the occasion demands it — like this coming Saturday’s out-of-state wedding. Thank you.
Lisa
September 5, 2017 at 4:31 PMThat’s so sweet of you, Ann! Thank you.:-)
I’m so glad I encourage you to consider colour and bling; I think the older we get, the more important BOTH of them are. Have fun at the wedding! xx

September 4, 2017 at 4:02 PMWOW woman you have out-oranged even me in this coat!! I’m somewhat jelly you got to this coat before I did because it’s an absolute beauty, and you have styled it to P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N in both instances. Goes to show a statement coat really does work well for work…!
It’s been a great project to work on with you lovely lot, I think all of us have done so well in showcasing our Hobbs pieces. Hurrah for the O40Co!!

September 4, 2017 at 4:10 PMThere’s something about the robe style coat that I particularly like & this one has the exact amount of wrap. If they wrap too little or too much you don’t get the hourglass silhouette that makes it sexy. It’s not easy to make a wool coat sexy but HOBBS & YOU have done it here! I think anyone who would previously be afraid of wearing a bright orange coat would have their mind firmly changed looking at your post Lisa. Beautiful work babe xx
Lisa
September 5, 2017 at 4:01 PMOh, thank you so much, lovely. I’m so pleased you like this coat as much as I do! It has a real elegance to it; unusual in a coat! It is such a versatile piece and such a fabulous rich colour. xx

September 4, 2017 at 7:48 PMYou all look smashing! I so appreciate seeing my contemporaries as sought-after spokeswomen for brands. Represent!
Lisa
September 5, 2017 at 3:53 PMThank you! I agree; it is SUCH a pleasure seeing relatable people our own age wearing clothes rather than 17 year old models. We love supporting brands who get it. xx

September 4, 2017 at 9:02 PMBeautiful coat. Funny, you have a bright fuchsia coat now and a bright orange coat. So do I. Different models but I like our choice haha. In both versions: professional and evening you look really good. You styled it well.

September 6, 2017 at 8:28 PMFirst of all- Orange and blue-Go Gators! Now that we got that out of the way, I absolutely ADORE this coat. It is so fabulous. That color is calling my name- I wear orange and bright pink together a lot. When you have the coat wrapped, it is nothing short of amazing the way it hugs and drapes creating such a gorgeous silhouette. I’m kind of in love with this particular coat- more than any other I’ve seen on you. The shoes for both evening and daytime are incredible.
If we are ever in close proximity- can I just stand behind you while you shop online? I feel like it would blow my mind. 😀 Another beautiful post. Going to check out the rest of the Over 40 Collective.

Hahaha, you can certainly shop online with me sometime; I have a PhD in that. 🙂 xx

October 6, 2017 at 2:32 PMFantastic shade of orange on you. You’re clearly a warm-toned person who can carry this off (I’m cool-toned so this shade would make me look like I have gastroenteritis ;-). Love this look. Susan x

October 6, 2017 at 9:12 PMThanks so much, Susan! I’m VERY new to orange, but have bought two orange pieces this year. Yes, I am a bit warm-toned. I do have to be careful with makeup colours when I wear orange though 😀 xx
