Sometimes, you see an item of clothing and completely lose your mind over it. You become seduced. You fall under its spell. This thing is THE SHIZNIT; you have to have it or your life will never be the same again… instead it will be filled with regret and remorse and gnashing of teeth, because you let this one get away. That’s what happened here. I was in Paris with my husband, and we were making our way to the glittering shops on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré to have a browse. Before we got there, I glanced over and saw a bright yellow faux-crocodile coat in the the window at Miu Miu and swooned…. probably even squealed. I can’t wear yellow, but I had to know if this coat came in any other colours. We went in the shop and found it also came in orange (also not great on me), and in black, my home colour. I didn’t get it that day, but went home to sleep on it (See? I’m adhering to my rules of when to splurge and when not to) because really, did I NEED a faux-crocodile patent coat? I do have a weakness for clothes that are reminiscent of the early 1960’s, particularly when, like this coat, they remind of mega-badass-babe Emma Peel from The Avengers. It is plastic fantastic with enormous buttons. Shiny as glass. Surprisingly warm. It looks like it should be worn by a crime fighting superhero. Or a dangerous spy. After obsessing about it overnight I knew I had to go back and get it the next day, and my lovely husband got it for me for a birthday present. Even after I got it, I just stared at it, fighting the urge to lick it like a mother cat grooming a kitten.
Two other things that have given me heart palpitations recently are a pair of shockingly comfortable multicolour glitter heels from J Crew, and a pair of burgundy and red patent 60’s style ankle boots from Kurt Geiger. I should have just titled this post “Very Shiny Things I’ve Recently Lost My Mind Over” since all three are below.
With no further yammering from me, I’ll let the pictures do the talking; I’m CRAZY about this coat, so there are a lot. First I styled the coat with an old multicoloured dress, a multicoloured statement necklace, some multicoloured rings, and my J Crew multicoloured glitter shoes. This is a real More Is More outfit, but I feel quite at home in it. I did have on a multicoloured crystal tiara with it, but even I decided that was a bridge too far!
Coat: Miu Miu Necklace: Ebay Dress: (old)Atterley Heels: JCrew Rings: Pomellato
Next, I wanted to really emphasise the 1960’s element of this coat, so I went for an off-duty-Emma-Peel look, with patent ankle boots and a dress with big retro buttons on it. I’m dangerously close being too 60’s retro in this (like I’m going to a costume party) but since I love this era in clothing, I wanted to go for it head to toe. Having modern hair keeps it from looking too costumey (I think. I hope. I don’t care, actually).
Coat: Miu Miu, Sunglasses: Miu Miu, Boots: Kurt Geiger, Dress: (old) Hoss Intropia
(I promise I did not drink those)
Have you had any completely irrational love-at-first-sight purchases recently? I’d love to know I’m not the only one who COMPLETELY falls apart over a shiny coat or a pair of glittery shoes!

December 26, 2015 at 1:46 PMFantastic pictures Lisa! Funnily enough my overall favourite outfit is the one you think may be a tad too 1960’s. I also love the full length shot of you from behind in those fabulous boots, your calves look sensational woman!
Obviously I have fallen instantly in love many times, with clothes I mean but I think bags are my ultimate weakness. I often imagine the outfits I’ll wear with “the bag” I must have but haven’t actually bought yet. It’s bloody torture actually but far worse to buy something unspecial to fill a void.
Blimey I do sound pathetic Hahahaha. I don’t care either! 😉

December 26, 2015 at 4:02 PMThank you, Michelle! Of course you would like the most retro one, retrochicmama! Yeah, I can see that you are a Bag Gal; your blog shows that you love them! I am always a sucker for good shoes (especially boots) and coats. xx

December 26, 2015 at 2:26 PMOH. YES. You look amazing in those ensembles!
I used to have a silver “leather” coat that I wore until it disintegrated.
My latest swoon-n-pay episode involved a green leopard patterned fur felt hat in New Orleans.

December 26, 2015 at 9:16 PMI was looking forward to seeing this coat (after having heard the story behind its purchase) which is why I’m absolutely trilled about this post. I would have fallen for it too, given its originality and that fact that it’s from Miu Miu (one of my favourite brands because it’s so fresh and young:) And the pumps- Instant Love! And the mini dress – so hot on you Lisa! And the sunshine in the post. Loved everything! xx Abby

December 29, 2015 at 6:41 AMYou were right to obsess over this coat, because it’s perfect on you. I really love the second look with the ankle boots. I’ve been trying to reign in my “must haves” since eight years of college/vet school for my younger son are looming on the horizon. I shall live vicariously through you!
Lisa
December 29, 2015 at 9:48 AMThank you so much, Lana. ‘Must haves’ take on a very different level of importance with what you have ahead. But VET SCHOOL! Did he read all the James Heriot books as a child? I did, and I still sort of wish I had been a vet… xx

December 29, 2015 at 7:09 PMLove the coat, especially with the patent boots, I feel like those complete the outfit so much better than the heels! xx

February 8, 2016 at 8:29 PMI’d get in touch with Miu Miu and have them locate one for you. I know the red double breasted version was/is on sale at Net A Porter very recently, so have a quick look there too! Good luck xx
