As you will know from reading this blog, I wear a LOT of Winser London. In magazine parlance, they make the perfect ‘elevated basics,’ or high quality investment pieces that can be mixed, matched, styled and re-styled with your own jewellery and accessories. I always describe Winser London’s clothes as being the ideal canvas for styling. Flattering colours and good cuts make the perfect backdrop for my bling! I might wear the same sweater ten times, but it will be styled differently and look like a totally different outfit each time. Case in point below: the same black v-neck sweater worn two very different ways. This one is a must have item in my closet… it is a nearly year-round light weight, and despite constant wear, it still looks brand new.
Winser London launched just a couple of years before I started blogging, and this month is their 5th year Anniversary. I’m thrilled to watch their success as more women discover them. I know my American readers who’ve discovered them through my blog have loved their purchases because they write to tell me! In our current world of disposable fast fashion, it makes me so happy to see women building wardrobes out of pieces they can wear for years rather than pieces that need to be replaced every season. Winser London is precisely the kind of brand I like to support. Woman-owned, woman-designed, quality products, and a team of kind, faultlessly-mannered people who are an absolute pleasure to deal with. Their gracious corporate culture starts at the top with Kim Winser herself, and it has filtered through her entire company; she’s a class act, and the team she’s surrounded herself with is as well (I kind of want her to run for political office!). I first wrote about Kim and the brand back in 2015 here, in case you’d like to read more.
To celebrate their five years of style, Winser London chose their top 5 wardrobe staples, called the Forever Five. Except for the Grace miracle dress, I have all of these in my closet, some in multiple colours. If I still worked in an office every day, I’d probably have a few versions of the Grace too. I chose two of the five pieces to highlight for this post to show you how versatile ‘elevated basics’ can be. One is the boyfriend jumper (as seen above) that I absolutely live in. The other is their wide leg trouser, which you have seen before as part of a suit. Here, I’m wearing the black wide leg trouser with the oyster coloured stripe down the side for a lunch and PR event. I’m also wearing some pretty special pearls (which my husband gave me for my 40th birthday) and some fantastic sparkly snake earrings (from my friend Catherine of NotDressedAsLamb for my last birthday) along with a Kate Spade fox clutch that was a birthday present to myself a few years back. Basically, I’m taking versatile staple items and adding my own spin on them so that they feel like me.
Terrible lighting, but look at my necklace and earrings!
Below are exactly the same trousers and sweater as I’m wearing above, just in a different colour. I have to point out that my heels are too high for these trousers, but it was just starting to snow (yes really) and I raced out of the house to take these blog photos without noticing. I’ll wear them with a lower heel in future. These trousers look SO much better with a low heel (how often can you say that?!).
I was meant to take photos with Michelle on the day I’m wearing the pink sweater (her last day in London before moving to the US), but the snow had other plans for us. Instead, I had to freeze on Chiltern Street by myself, minutes before the snow started pelting down! Here Michelle is Stateside, wearing the same pink jumper (did I mention this comes in 11 colours?) and a gorgeous Winser London tweed skirt from the Yasmin Le Bon collection.
I love the swishiness and elegant movement of these trousers; they feel good to wear and the satin-backed crepe fabric drapes beautifully. They travel nicely as well; I didn’t even have time to steam these, I just put them on straight out of the box.
So, happy 5th Anniversary to one of my favourite brands! Every season, I fall madly in love with several pieces that I know will slot right into my wardrobe and get lots of mileage; I look forward to the next five years of style crushes.
Apologies for the lack of posts lately; I’ve been snowed under literally and figuratively. I currently have a nasty virus, my son turns five tomorrow, I’ve written my first piece as a fashion columnist for a magazine (more on that later), I had to get my bunny neutered so he can get a girlfriend, and lots of other stuff that I can’t remember because I’m too hopped up on cold medicine right now! I’ll probably do my monthly vlog next, as soon as my voice is back to normal. I have some interesting new finds to share with you. For anyone playing along at home with my perimenopause drama, I can highly recommend the Pukka Womankind supplements that I had just started taking in my last post. When I say they are life changing, I’m not exaggerating at all. If I miss taking them for a day or two, I immediately feel it. Until next week, friends! xx
Thank you to Winser London for the black side stripe trousers and the pink jumper; they’re already in very heavy rotation. 🙂

March 27, 2018 at 9:43 PMThank you, Troy! That is so nice to hear. There isn’t really a brand like Winser London in the US, so I think that is why the Americans like them so much. xx

March 28, 2018 at 4:31 PMI think their pieces are great. I have a similar brand in The Netherlands jolinejolink.com. And like you, I chose wide legged trousers to wear with flat shoes (sneakers even). It still looks good. For summer I have nice flat leather shoes too. Mind you, Winser is very elegant and I often think I should really become more elegant and less “boyfriend jeans like”. Get what I mean?
Love the pearls, earrings and clutch. And again you look so beautiful. If I wear a man I would court you. Don’t be afraid, I am 100% hetero. But probably have been a man in a previous life ?.

March 28, 2018 at 8:07 PMTheir pieces really are great; they punch well above their price point, I find. I’m going to look into your Dutch brand! Greetje, I think you do elegant AND boyfriend-jeans-chic equally well. Because I know your personality, I think you suit the slightly more rock n’ roll punchy boyfriend jeans thing so well, because your core style is about FUN! Hahaha about courting me. You’re smart, stylish, and funny; I could never say no to that combination 😀 xx

March 30, 2018 at 5:59 PMThat pearl necklace is really special. I wouldn’t be able to stop staring if we were in a face to face conversation since I love pearls.
I’ve always shied away from wide-leg pants since I’m so short. I’ve always thought that it would too much unless I wore sky high heels with them. But perhaps, they would be more flattering to my shape than skinny legged ones.
Yes, Winser London has been great. I bought another Hollywood Red cashmere sweater last year. And I always have at least fifteen to twenty items in my wish list on their site. This past fall/winter, I’ve been wearing, fairly regularly, the cardigan with the crystal buttons and it pairs wonderfully with a matching red tee from Lafayette 148 with pants for a comfortable and flattering work outfit.
Lisa
March 31, 2018 at 9:11 PMI love the pearl necklace too; I don’t wear it often but I love it. I feel like a real grown up in it!
I don’t wear wide leg trousers often. I think these only work because of the drape. I’m more at home in a tailored trouser, but it is always nice to have one or two pieces that are different from everything else just to mix it up. I’ve worn the black ones with the stripe to death!
Oh yes I remember your Hollywood Red cashmere purchase! That colour is THE most perfect red to me. I’m so glad you’re as big a fan of Winser as I am. I really can’t think of any other brand that competes with them. At the top of my wish list right now is their double vented blazer and the cropped trouser in Flame. The colour is insane; it is like a cross between red and highlighter-orange. I have no idea if it would work with my colouring, but I love it so much I don’t really care! xx

April 3, 2018 at 12:31 AMLove everything above, Lisa. Especially those serpent earrings! Feeling particularly covetous of those.
Very good to see a post from you. But continue to care for yourself first. Cold, begone! Good perimenopause med/supp, come on! 🙂
In May I’ll be near you, but an island away — in Ireland. I’ll wave. 🙂
Lisa
April 18, 2018 at 9:36 PMThe serpent earrings were a gift from a high street store. If I can find them, I’ll buy them and send them to you, Ann! I wish you were coming to England, but I hope you have a brilliant time in Ireland. Where and what and why? xx

April 9, 2018 at 7:25 AMYou look so Glam in all these photos Lisa!! It’s lovely to see Michelle! I have a horrible virus too. It’s grim. I wouldn’t even consider a vlog – I look about 150 years old currently. I’m so impressed! Sending you virtual hugs, vitamins, sunshine and chicken broth xxx

April 18, 2018 at 9:40 PMThis virus has been absolutely dreadful, hasn’t it? So many people around me have had it, and it goes on FOREVER. Let’s hope the sunshine bakes it out of all of us. Thank you, Maria. I’m so behind on my vlogging, but aint nobody need to hear me with a sinus infection and a sore throat 🙂 xx
