Orange you glad for October in New York?

Orange in the city

October has always been my favourite month in New York.  Usually, the days are bright, warm, and sunny, but with a bracing chill in the mornings and evenings… perfect weather for cashmere and knitwear.  This year, it was unseasonably warm, and I found myself without as many clothing options as I’d have liked.  I will never ever write one of those “What I packed for a trip to New York/Barcelona/Maldives” posts that every blogger seems to do.  I am a hopeless packer, and I’m sure you are grown up enough to be able to pack for yourself better than I can.  I’m always in a rush, I pack one pair of jeans and sensible shoes which I wear the ENTIRE time.  I also pack enough jewellery, makeup, and skincare to sink a ship, and I only wear a fraction of it.   Basically, I pack as if I’m going to be performing in Vegas, not walking around a city for 7 hours straight every day.  This trip was no exception!

When I wear this orange coat, I get so many compliments on the colour that I decided to add some more orange to my wardrobe this autumn.  Enter this gorgeous bright orange boyfriend sweater… it is from Yasmin Le Bon’s collection for Winser London.  I excitedly packed it for my NY trip, but it was so warm, there was almost no opportunity to wear it.  Michelle and I got up early on Sunday morning (after a late night out with many cocktails, in our velvet suits!), downed a few coffees to clear away the cobwebs, and walked  over to Bryant Park to photograph the sweaters.  I don’t look quite awake yet in these photos, so I probably should have ordered triple shots (of espresso, not the cocktails the night before).   Despite the forecast for warm weather, it was cool the entire day and the sweaters were perfect.

I have to include a closeup of the knit, because it is just so beautiful.  I mean look. at. that.   I wore the orange sweater colour-clashed with the pink ruffled scarf that Yasmin gave me at the event where she showed her collection (See how casually I just dropped that in?  Well, on the inside I’m jumping up and down screaming because I got to meet an iconic supermodel from the 90s who I adored, and she gave me a scarf.  I asked her to give me her shoes as well (they were these Gucci green metallic studded sling backs) but she just laughed and said, “Nice try.”  Even if I didn’t love her for being, you know, Yasmin Le Bon, I’d love her as a woman who loves bonkers shoes as much as I do. I’m actually breaking out in a sweat thinking how brilliantly those green shoes would be with this orange sweater.  Or anything else in my closet, for that matter…

OMG! I don’t know where to start. Yasmin Le Bon, you’re in a ponytail and all of this wrapped in a pink cashmere scarf exactly like the one I own! You look super beautiful there – no sign of too many cocktails the night before whatsoever! BTW I didn’t get any message about Paris? Is everything alright? xx Abby

Have you got a pink scarf like this? Have you also been hanging out with Yasmin Le Bon? 😀 That makes me extra happy to wear mine! Thank you so much sweetheart. I never got a reply back from you about my dates. Everything is fine! Let me go investigate… xx

After that evening with cocktails you look like when you arrived in Paris after your flight from NY AND your carride from London AND traffic jam. Perfect. Amazing how you do that. The sweater is of superb quality, I can see that a mile away. Fun to have chosen a different colour scarf. The green slingbacks would have matched your earrings too (spiked, very nice, both the earrings and the shoes).
I am a bit puzzled by the title of your post: “Orange you glad for October in New York”. Is that a -slang- verbe? Orange?

Well, we see ourselves so differently, don’t we? I felt like a wreck when I saw you in Paris! I know you understand how much I need those shoes… you’re so right, I ALREADY have matching earrings!

Sorry for the post title, it is a really childish joke, a play on how the word “orange” sounds like the word “aren’t.” It is my favourite knock knock joke, which I’m going to post here!

      Knock knock
      Who’s there?
      Banana

Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?!

Great post in so many ways — the freebie, Yasmin, her shoes, your glowing cashmere, and your gorgeous complexion.

But this was my favorite part: “Basically, I pack [for a trip] as if I’m going to be performing in Vegas, not walking around a city for 7 hours straight every day.”

    You’re da bomb!

I’m SO glad you liked this, Ann! I’m no packing expert, that is for sure. I pack for the circus in my head rather than the reality that awaits me at my destination. Also, the more I stare at those green shoes, the more I need them.

Getting a free pink scarf from Yasmin Le Bon is icing on the cake, isn’t it? If I were millennial, I’d say something like #goalz 🙂 xx

Those colors look so perfect with your peaches and cream complexion. Love the shoes too!

Regarding the challenges of travel wardrobes, back when I worked in retail, it sometimes happened that I was ‘forced’ to purchase a garment of clothing on the spot because I had spilled coffee or splotched myself with ink. Don’t you operate under that same emergency plan when you travel?

Thank you, Mithra! This orange thing is all new for me… as is pink, actually. So thanks!

I do sort of operate with that emergency plan, but I hate being forced to buy things out of necessity rather than really loving them; sometimes needs must. This trip, I ended up wearing a LOT of one pair of jeans and a v-neck charcoal grey tee shirt… but with a lot of jewellery! xx

    Lisa,
This sweater looks wonderful on you my dear. And orange and pink are so your color. I do hope you and Michelle plan to go to New York in the near future again, because I’d love to meet up with you two. I think we would have a glorious time.

I’m CERTAIN we’d have a glorious time! Once she moves over there, we’ll have plenty of opportunity to have a good girls weekend somewhere. Maybe we should bring her down South?! xx

You never look hungover woman…NEVER! It’s infuriating actually 😉
I agree with Abby, love your hair in a ponytail. I think the clash of orange & pink is awesome simply because your mate YLB got the shades so right. It just works perfectly, especially with that peaches & cream skin of yours xxx
