Now that some cherry blossoms are out and it looks like we might’ve turned the page on winter here in London (perhaps a tad optimistic), it is time for my favourite wardrobe staple, the silver sequin skirt to sparkle in the sunshine, instead of hiding beneath a winter coat. I actually read in a magazine a few weeks ago listed under fashion don’ts: ‘sequins after the holidays’. Wha? Sure, you should only wear your reindeer sweaters (if you must) in December, but sequins?! What sort of bitter, self-loathing, style-free person packs away their sequins with the holiday decorations? Not me. Instead, I’m skipping out into the sunshine, wearing a sequin-sloganed sweatshirt (because what goes better with sequins than MORE sequins, amiright?) with a sequin skirt, and frankly, I couldn’t feel better. If post-Christmas sequins are wrong, I don’t ever want to be right. That is the liberating part about style after 40; I don’t care what the magazines say to wear or not wear. I will wear whatever my little sequin encrusted heart desires. And right now, it is this outfit. It has all of my favourite elements: wearable and walkable Rockstud kitten heels, a sweatshirt, my beloved skirt, and one of my studded cuff bracelets (which I almost feel naked without).
I know lots of you are still buried under a foot of snow, but what are you looking forward to wearing when it melts away and the crocuses start shoving their bright little faces up out of the ground?

March 2, 2015 at 7:32 PMlove your shoes! I have been trying to scout that style out. Love the skirt. I don’t wear silver but I wear gold and I would wear gold or bronze!!

March 2, 2015 at 9:16 PMThese shoes are RIDICULOUSLY comfortable, so I wear them a lot. Thank you, Stevie! The skirt comes in gold for the new season; the one I have in silver is from winter. It is nicely made and has a good bit of stretch in it. I think you need a gold sequin skirt! I can see it working well with your jewellery.

March 6, 2015 at 5:26 AMI’d need to get a whole new life in a new place in order to get away with wearing a sequin skirt. It would look so out of place here in DC among my friends.

March 6, 2015 at 8:45 AMI think a silver sequin skirt is always a statement, even if you make it casual with a sweatshirt. I have a long black sequin skirt (the one I mention in the other post on Sequin skirts) that I wear very casually, with riding boots and a long belted cardigan over it. You might be able to get away with that in DC!

June 1, 2015 at 8:54 PMI love your outfit, I think it’s fabulous! I don’t care for fashion “rules” either, and like you I won’t be wearing any tassled garments any time soon. I’ve still got a suede cowboy-style jacket in the wardrobe at my mum’s that serves as a warning to never go back there…ditto the hideous perm!

June 1, 2015 at 9:06 PMThank you, Emma. Oooooo, a suede cowboy jacket serving as cautionary tale! I can just picture it, probably rust or brown? Sequins trump tassels in the rock-paper-scissors land of fashion, in my opinion. xx

April 11, 2016 at 4:15 PMYour outfit is totally ‘tres cool’ Lisa!! Like you, I don’t believe in packing away the sequins! Bah Humbug to those that do! And besides, what’s more gorgeous than the sequins sparkling in the sunlight, right? B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L!!!
